where to get help for game dev in java etc...

I've taken many roads and looked on youtube for help. people code in such different ways and I spend hours daily trying to learn java for game dev. I don know basics but this is iratating. If I don't get help ill get a better java textbook and move on to killer game programming in java. I understand a lot of graphics and such. I can create a basic game loop and create a player class with an image and keypress but no tiles. I've looked at fforiegnguymike and thechernoproject for advanced game programming but the cherno codes in a forign way and forignguymike codes good but explains nothing.
