Animation controls can play only simple AVI clips. Specifically, the clips to be played by an animation control must meet the following requirements:
* There must be exactly one video stream and it must have at least one frame.
* There can be at most two streams in the file (typically the other stream, if present, is an audio stream, although the animation control ignores audio information).
* The clip must either be uncompressed or compressed with RLE8 compression.
* No palette changes are allowed in the video stream.

How could I get access to the pixel values for the frames in the avi stream?

Hi,
I'm looking for a special AVI to implement in our App. I can't remember, where I saw it, but it had to do something with transfering data. It's like the Knight Rider light, some squares where one is highlighted moving from right to left and back.
Does anybody know, where I can find and download legally ?
Any help appreciated

If you are planning to release an upgrade of existing CAnimateCtrl ,It's good idea to enable support for different Video CODECs like DivX , TSCC etc.
Programmatically how to inject support for these CODECs ? If this is possible through MFC code then your control will be highly "Pluggable".
As far AVI control is concerned I will prefer for MCI programming and will like to have a nice MCIWnd control(C++ control rather than ActiveX control)
Good luck

Found this out after assuming it didn't matter since it was a binary resource anyway.

Just pass your string to Open. It can take either an UINT identifier or a string to the filename.
e.g.:
Open("C:\test.avi");

I changed your code form:
m_avi.Play( 0, -1, -1 );
to
m_avi.Play( 0, -1, 1 );
so that it would only repeat once, but how do i make the avi dissappear(sp?) after it has finished?
|
|
|
|
|
one method is -
m_avi.ShowWindow(SW_SHOW);
m_avi.Play(0,-1,1)
m_avi.ShowWindow(SW_HIDE);

What I have known so far is that video file format with extensions like MOV,QT and MPG works on the web. I don't think AVI is one of them. If there are more then please let me know also.

To make the background transparent:
Before Play:
m_avi.ModifyStyle(0,ACS_TRANSPARENT);

With CAnimateCtrl I can load only uncompressed AVI. How can I load compressed AVI
|
|
|
|
|
Like described in the MSDN, CAnimateCtrl only supports uncompressed AVI and AVIs compressed using Microsoft RLE8. You can create these AVIs with the program "Videdit" that comes with "Video for Windows" from Microsoft.

The type of AVI files CAnimateCtrl can play is very limited. Do you know where I can find such a kind of files or how can I create one?
Thanks,
Ton

Jasc (makers of Paint Shop Pro, www.jasc.com) have a program called Animation Shop that allows you to make and edit AVI files.
