Yes, I was thinking of that, too. I didn't want to enter irrelevancies like a science-fictional case into the discussion.

There's a lot of money going into cultured meat research. While the people doing the research are telling the world "yeah, nearly there; we could just do with another million investment to fine-tune stuff" there are others who are taking a different view - that we can go on piling the investment in and yet never reach a feasible solution. It's a long article, and I've not yet read it all, but thecounter.org/lab-grown-cultivated-meat-cost-at-scale
[^] picks apart the issues...

You mean hydroponics? Or basically just a variation of that. That has existed and been used for thousands of years.

They have been experimenting with vat grown meat for two decades.
Singapore now has vat grown meat in at least one restaurant.
Chicken has been approved for sale in the US as of this year.
Multiple places are working with beef also.
trønderen wrote: how morally acceptable is it?
Which is why there was a conference now some years ago to decide whether vat grown meat was kosher or not. Or if it could be prepared in a kosher way.
I think there was another such meeting to decide another related issue more recently.
As to whether a vegan or vegetarian might consider that ok or not there is no authority for them. Given that it still starts with original meat I suspect most will pass.

My adblocker software now pops its own ads at me.
Can anyone recommend one that doesn't, and will block youtube ad content in videos? I'm on Chrome, mostly.

I use Malwarebytes for general protection. They have a chrome add-on that blocks advs and tracking. (no extra advs)
However, Youtube now downloads code to detect adv blockers and pops up a nasty message warning you to either turn the adv blocker off or purchase the adv free Youtube. (I have discontinued most of my youtube viewing in response to this).

You're using the wrong ad-blocker then. You can still block ads on youtube. I do it every day.

Hey, thanks.
It's not doing it anymore. When I got the message I checked around and found that people were complaining that youtube was downloading unwanted code to run and detect adv blockers, so I just stopped viewing.
Malwarebytes not only blocks ads and tracking but also traps redirects, unwanted downloads of code and links to sketchy sites. so I am not turning it off.
Thanks again.

I'm using Ad Block and Ad Block plus. One of them ends up blocking youtube. It also pops its own ads lately. So I'm looking to move. I'll try uBlock Origin next

I can recommend uBlock Origin, but it will not work in future Chrome versions, due to upcoming restrictions.
Alternatively you could switch to another Browser like Edge or Firefox.
There is also a new lite version of uBlock with limited functionality, which is supposed to work in future Chrome versions.
uBlock Origin definitely blocks youtube ads and never failed me.
