Apple's document includes requests from all countries and covers a period ranging from January 1st to June 30th of this year. To be fair. IE10 & IE11 aren't THAT bad anymore. I even prefer IE when it comes to the Metro Browser.
And it's perfectly fine to ditch support for older browser versions. Supporting more than the last 2 major versions is a waste of time and money. It's not like they the functionality will stop working on those older browsers, there just might be some features that aren't working the way you would expect them to.

It would be perfectly fine to ditch older browsers if widespread use of them had also gone away. As of last month[^]; only ~1/3rd of IE users were on v 10 or 11; and 8 was still the most widely used version. In China, IE6[^] still has 22% of the market due to the widespread use of WarezdozeXP with all update services disabled.
As an aside, while I fully support MS's decision to dog food it's new accelerated 2d APIs; by making IE9+ Vista or newer only they've made IE8 linger as a major browser for far longer than it should have.

I didn't notice that yet as I'm using it usually just fullscreen on my Surface Pro.
Google Chrome, However displayed the content out of the box already way too small and the Menus etc. were so poorly designed, that you couldn't change any settings or something like that without using the Pen or a mouse. (Besides, Text and Images from the Menu etc. were all very blurry which didn't help the readabilty either). Chrome is my browser of choice when in Desktop Mode.
So yeah, I prefer Metro IE to Metro Chrome
