No version of Visual Studio from 2010 and higher will work in Linux (under WINE). Why? Because MS uses WPF for the UI. Even earlier versions are problematic.

I had to share this lunacy from Fox News: clickety[^]I heard the report on BBC World News earlier and couldn't believe my ears. the highlights:

Birmingham is almost totally Muslim
There are parts of London where "Muslim Police" will beat you if you are not wearing Muslim attire (whatever that might be!)

One Tweet in response was to the effect "Do I need a passport to go to Birmingham". Fox is clearly wanting to establish itself as the National Enquirer of TV. To come: Reports of Elvis and ET partying in Soho.

It's interesting how when some incompetent news reporter on Fox News fails to properly do his/her job it's a problem with "Fox News", but when a similarly incompetent reporter on some other news organization fails to do his/her job it's a problem with that reporter, not with the news organization employing the reporter.

It's a volume thing, like complaining about bad headlines on The Daily Mail, or spelling errors in The Guardian.

But I would disagree with your thesis. People I've heard tend to complain about the source more, rather than the individual writer/reporter (as they tend to be more interchangeable). The exceptions would be "Glenn Beck said...", or "Rachel Maddow said...", etc. For example, previous complaints about "articles from Infoworld et al" rather than the authors.

My experience, in person, has been the same as yours, mostly (except for my family members). However, on forums such as this, (and among certain left-leaning crowds) there tends to be an anti-Fox News mantra. People seems to like to hate on Fox News because those people seem to conflate opinion shows like "Bill O'Reilly" and "Glenn Beck", etc with "news" and dislike that the opinions expressed are different than their own. So, here, it's mostly about a particular bias.

So you're suggesting that Fox has no responsibility for airing a report without checking the facts. The facts are so wide of the mark here that, in IMO, Fox shares as much of the blame as the reporter. Editors exist for a purpose.

... and it would be the same whatever the organization that aired the story was. I refute bias on my part other than the observation that the entire Murdoch organization actually has a track record of poor and sensationalist reporting.

I don't watch Fox for that reason and the fail is on their part.

We are talking live TV here. Are you suggesting there should be a time delay whilst facts are being checked? Or how are you suggesting that the editor get involved? I agree, BTW, that the interviewer should have been incredulous about some of the interviewees' statements.

Most news organizations employ dimwits. So the question is why is Fox News singled out when they're no more or less guilty as any other organization?

It's a basic tenet of (good) organizations that the higher levels accept the blame for what goes wrong while passing praise for what goes right to the lower levels.

(Bad organizations do it the other way around of course.)

What bias? One of their 'experts' made some totally stupid comments, so they are due a measure of fair criticism.

The bias comes in the form of only knocking FNC for such and also for requiring editorial intervention during live TV.
