I want to create an control panel applet with the appearence of windows XP (buttons, tabs, etc) just like the mouse applet looks like.
I have no problem creating and applet by itself but i'm not able to display the dialog () with the XP looks. I imported the RT_MANIFEST as i normally do with a dialog based app but it did not work, i went to msdn and found this page:

they mention the control panel applet but i really don't understand waht i should do, speacially the link to commoncontrol part.
My steps to create are:
- create an mfc dll
- define the necessary functions (calback, ...)
- rename it to cpl
any thoughts? sugestions? you know the drill

Hi, I wrote a simple tcp/ip program in VC++....I have a question regarding sending data. I created a simple tcp/ip chat program where one copy of the same prog. is made a server and other copy of it is the client, and I'm able to send string messages back and forth. I wanted to know if instead of string messages I want to send data of type BYTE. I would like to send for ex. data type BYTE test [5] = 0x03 0x19 0x00 0x12 0xD5

iSent = m_sConnectSocket.Send(LPCTSTR(m_strMessage),iLen);
I thought I could repalce the m_strMessage with variable "test" of type BYTE, but no luck
If you could help me out, I would greatly appericate it.

Thats simple. 
Send expects a [long constant pointer to TCHAR] variable, so just putting somthing of type byte isn`t right. still, the second parameter of .Send is
a length of data to be sent, thats it in TCHARs.
So make it that way:
Suppose you have a
BYTE g_aBytes[1024];
filled with some interesting bytes and you want to send 651 of them.
just make a call like that:
iSent = m_sConnectSocket.Send((LPCTSTR) g_aBytes, 651);
here you do s old-style C cast from array of bytes to LPCTSTR. Also you expicitly tell the socket how much data you`d like to send. That`ll do the trick, unless you dont use UNICODE.
In general , from your post i see you`re not much expirienced in C++ programming. I recommend some serious reading - for example Bjane Stroustroup
C++ programming language third edition.

Hello!
I'm in need of a simple graphing/charting library, capable of drawing line graphs (and hopefully a few other types).
However i intend to use it from several languages, so must be packaged as a standard DLL.

I need to have a vector of a class inside another class, but can't seem to get it to work:
class ca{};
class cb{
protected:
vector <ca *=""> va;
};
I included <vector> in cb.h along with ca.h but the compiler gives the following error:
d:\vectest\cb.h(3): error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before '<'
Anyone know how to use vectors of one class inside of another class?
any help would be appreciated,

And in the class cb you should write vector<ca> va;

OK, I'm using the files created by the wizard. In which file would you put the "using namespace std;".
Also, I am generating the ca using
ca *cax = new(ca);
Wouldn't the * be needed to hold the pointer?

SetRedraw() won't help to avoid flicker in OnDraw(). You'll have to use a memory DC to do that.

It depends what kind of development you're into I guess. If it's just straight unmanaged Visual C++ (which I assume it is since you don't mention .NET), it's then a case of whether you're going down the MFC route, or using just the Win32 API or WTL.
Whatever you end up doing it's probably no bad thing to learn about Windows programming without the assistance of any libraries, in which case, something like Programming Windows by Charles Petzold is an excellent choice.
Alternatively, I can recommend Programming Visual C++ by Kruglinski, Wingo and Shepherd (there's a new release that also covers Visual C++ .NET) and it covers the basics of Windows programming, the majority of it is dedicated to MFC but with some ATL and COM also covered. For MFC in particular I would also highly recommend Jeff Prosise's Programming Windows with MFC.
Alternatively, there's loads of code and articles on the internet that can be used. I'm not aware of any WTL books, but there are some excellent articles on this site about how to use it, so I'd recommend maybe one or two books to get you into it, and then use articles here and elsewhere to supplement.
Of course, this all hinges on you learning how to use C++ and the standard library so once you start using Visual C++ you can actually build things, rather than just knowing how to display list views etc.

Immodestly I would recommend my own Visual C++.NET Bible. While Jeff's (Prosise) book is very good, I believe I cover several integral Windows programming topics better (COM, database, XML, etc.)
