A new "demographic inference" tool developed by academics can make predictions based solely on the information in a person's social media profile (i.e. screen name, biography, profile photo, and name). I guess that saves you from reading their profile?

Based on the headline, that could be done with a few lines of code. Further, it can predict age and gender based on nothing at all.

Big deal. Without knowing anything whatsoever about a person, I can predict their gender with 50% accuracy!
From the fact that they have a Twitter account, I can predict whether their IQ is above or below the 50th percentile with almost 100% accuracy!

Age - don't they get that from the birth date field?
Gender - First, I'm really surprised the liberals allowed this to happen, given the three dozen genders are now available to choose from, and second, technologically, this is an impressive accomplishment given the number of semi-offically recognized genders there are available to pick from.

Tech support scams have always been a problem, but they typically were located on small web hosting services throughout the world. Researchers have now observed these scams increasingly moving towards the Microsoft Azure cloud platform for ease of deployment and inexpensive web hosting. Yay for "The Cloud"
