i am daily news subscriber for more than a decade.
i remember daily news as a more productive scenario, filled with more development or technology. sometimes philosophy.
i can't remember exactly when but it must be 5-7 years now that daily news took a turn more like the news on TV. everything about some security somewhere...
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY was a good addition, but that also is a bit vague.
is it just me or you also have that feeling they are pushing this 'billion devices got hacked' story everywhere?

i have praised Kent personally a couple of times because i like the funny comments below the links, but i always thought that he only reacts to the news not that he chooses the items.

That’s an interesting distinction that I’ll have to consider for a while, thank you.
I guess it was that I thought people would want to know stuff about potential hacks and areas to secure. OKdOK, what should I be spending more time highlighting? (And of course, there have to be items for me to post, so there’s never a guarantee of content)

Fair enough. Yeah, that's probably too much security these days. I'll try to tone it down and "just play the hits". (Assuming that events give me decent amounts of non-security stuff, of course).

A billion devices? They're just saying that, downplaying it, to keep us from panicking and continuing on the buying spree.

I think it has more to do with bringing awareness - typically I'd read such articles and start thinking whether there's anything in them that was mentioned that might apply to me - is my code vulnerable to such things, and if so, what can I do to mitigate them. That sort of thing. If I, as a software developer, took no interest in learning about new attack methods, at one point I'd probably be in for a rude awakening.
And what else is going on anyway in the software world these days?

... while Herself has a Bronchoscopy and Bronchoalveolar Lavage (shove a camera up her nose, have a look at her lungs from the inside and then wash 'em out with saline to see if there is anything nasty in there they can culture) - another fine gift from Covid-19, the disease that keeps on giving!
I've got her oxygen in the boot, my Surface on my knees, and my phone providing a hotspot - and it's all working fine, but it's getting cold. At least I don't have to wear a mask and gloves in the car! 
If you are one of those people who are considering not having the vaccine when it's available: her O2 SATs are in the low 80's, mine are in the mid 90's, yours are almost certainly 99%! That's why the oxygen for her, and why I have no physical stamina: Covid damages your lungs if given a chance and nobody knows if it's going to repair itself over time, or be permanent like Asbestosis and Pneumoconiosis. Have the vaccine: you know it makes sense!
The procedure takes about 15 minutes, but the recovery form the "I don't care any more" drugs they give you to make it easier takes "a couple of hours" - hence sitting in a carpark as it's over an hours round trip to go home.
Still, at least I have the internet for company - surprising how well this stuff actually works!

That's a pretty compelling argument against the anti-vaxers, except, of course, that they won't read it and if they did they wouldn't understand it.

Her first jab is booked for a week on Monday because she works in a Care Home, I'm waaaaay down the queue and don't expect anything till at least the Spring, probably more like Summer!

I don't mind them, actually. I think holding that mind set is prima facie evidence that your existence does not contribute to the welfare of the human race. Since they won't get the vaccine, plus they also tend to be anti-maskers, natural selection should be taking a hand right quickly.

A chance of dying or getting permanently disabled has never changed the opinion of an anti-vaxxer I'm afraid.

Well, I can put a positive spin on that: there's not enough vaccine to go around so you ask them once, then, if they say "no", the nurse replies with "NEXT !".
Now I'd no want to be in the first group of mass vaccinations - and I'm not. Probably some months ahead for me. Plenty of time for any (likely) ill effects to have manifested in the first groups (and the UK, they having taken point). I have grandchildren I'd like to visit while they're still small enough to pick up.
