I think it has more to do with bringing awareness - typically I'd read such articles and start thinking whether there's anything in them that was mentioned that might apply to me - is my code vulnerable to such things, and if so, what can I do to mitigate them. That sort of thing. If I, as a software developer, took no interest in learning about new attack methods, at one point I'd probably be in for a rude awakening.
And what else is going on anyway in the software world these days?

I've got her oxygen in the boot, my Surface on my knees, and my phone providing a hotspot - and it's all working fine, but it's getting cold. At least I don't have to wear a mask and gloves in the car! 
If you are one of those people who are considering not having the vaccine when it's available: her O2 SATs are in the low 80's, mine are in the mid 90's, yours are almost certainly 99%! That's why the oxygen for her, and why I have no physical stamina: Covid damages your lungs if given a chance and nobody knows if it's going to repair itself over time, or be permanent like Asbestosis and Pneumoconiosis. Have the vaccine: you know it makes sense!
The procedure takes about 15 minutes, but the recovery form the "I don't care any more" drugs they give you to make it easier takes "a couple of hours" - hence sitting in a carpark as it's over an hours round trip to go home.
Still, at least I have the internet for company - surprising how well this stuff actually works!

That's a pretty compelling argument against the anti-vaxers, except, of course, that they won't read it and if they did they wouldn't understand it.

Her first jab is booked for a week on Monday because she works in a Care Home, I'm waaaaay down the queue and don't expect anything till at least the Spring, probably more like Summer!

I don't mind them, actually. I think holding that mind set is prima facie evidence that your existence does not contribute to the welfare of the human race. Since they won't get the vaccine, plus they also tend to be anti-maskers, natural selection should be taking a hand right quickly.

A chance of dying or getting permanently disabled has never changed the opinion of an anti-vaxxer I'm afraid.

Well, I can put a positive spin on that: there's not enough vaccine to go around so you ask them once, then, if they say "no", the nurse replies with "NEXT !".
Now I'd no want to be in the first group of mass vaccinations - and I'm not. Probably some months ahead for me. Plenty of time for any (likely) ill effects to have manifested in the first groups (and the UK, they having taken point). I have grandchildren I'd like to visit while they're still small enough to pick up.

I hope you and your wife get better soon. Don't know what else to say about that. I hear that long term recovery for some patients is a nightmare. Ugh.
I have pre-existing medical conditions, so I am always worried about this 24/7. I am in a state of when am I going to get COVID vs. if I am going to get COVID.
I will not get the vaccine right away. I am going to wait a bit and see what the initial outcomes are after the first releases are done (people over 65, front line medical workers, etc.). If things look positive, then I will get the vaccine for sure.

Pretty much my attitude is the same as yours, although I'm in the >65 group. That being said, the UK has gone ahead and the most likely acute affects will be showing themselves before the first vaccinations will be available in the US (or pretty much anywhere else in the west).
States will be doing their own prioritization - good luck on where you happen to live.

I take an anti-arthritis drug that's an immune system inhibitor. In particular, I'm to avoid "live" vaccines - fortunately, neither of the two varieties first developed are even dead virus'. I saw a bottle (on TV or online, I forget which) of the Chinese vaccine: it's old-school: described as "deactivated". I'd be out of luck.
As for the immunosuppressor - made me, at first, more nervous. As it turns out (empirical results), those who take this type (TNF suppressor) are significantly less likely to end up in ICU. It makes some sense as much of the worst harm from COVID is by one's own immune system.
Allergic reactions to shots - true, really, for just about all of them. Some are cultured with eggs. At one time (still?) others used horses as (live) hosts. My immunosuppresor is produced using cultured/cloned hamster cells. Fortunately, there will be multiple versions of the vaccine - and presuming the substrates vary as much as the vaccines, there will be something safe for everyone.

Not the worst thing we've done with vaccines.
Back in the early 1800's, the King of Spain decided to inoculate all holdings in South America against smallpox (a damn good idea) - but the journey was too long by ship. So ... orphans were rounded up and one was given the vaccine, he developed the immunity so they took take their blood and put it in the next orphan who develops the immunity and repeat the process all the way across the Atlantic. The British Empire did much the same with low caste Indian boys.

I'm always worried about Mrs. in my mental background. The empathy is palpable.
The secretary of my lodge was an early adopter of COVID - he's in a condition much like yours. He still doesn't feel well. Tired and uncomfortable look.
As I posted elsewhere in the thread, per those who don't want to get vaccinated: supplies are very limited. Ask once, then just move on to the next person. Those hoping to take advantage of a supposed "herd immunity" (i.e., sponge their well being off the rest of us) - will find out that it's still lurking about looking for victims (we are food). The hospitals may not be overcrowded anymore but the results all too often are long term.
I hope for your sake, and her-self's, that the damage can heal.
