Depending on the capabilites of your serial communications chip, you may be able to program it for "synchronous communications" which does not involve the start/stop bits previously (and correctly) refered to.
It is a fairly involved process and requires a fairly good understanding of the hardware involved, but it is usually possible.
read the article in the latest help from MSDN entitled "Aristocratic Communication: NetBIOS", particularily the part about how to setup synchronous communications and how to control the UART from your program.

an little enlectronics project i was planning on doing. but no im lookin for a way around not being able to send the 35bits, by incorporating more stuff into the electronics side.

It is, but only by using RTS and CTS as the data lines and doing the timing in software. Not pleasant, but possible.

last night ive worked out what i think may work using a hardware approach to my problem, just have to work out how to program this microcontroller.

Pretty cool little chip, huh? 
I think MPLAB comes with some sample code for using two of the pins as a UART. There is an application note here[^] which details how to do it (AN555).

hmmm, not to sure about that code, i had planned on using this[^] chip as a RS232, but thought that to control the CTS pins etc, i would still need the microcontroller. am i right?

That's an RS-232 level-shifter. RS-232 uses 0V for logic 0, and -12V for logic 1 (either that or the other way around). The level shifter is used to convert to/from standard logic (0=0V,1=5V). It doesn't process the data at all.
You'll still need a microcontroller to receive/transmit the signals, both the data and the CTS pins.

Anyone know how to get Visual C++ 7 to create a make file for the current project like Visual C++ 6 did. I've that VC7 has the ability to add a make file project but it seems you have write the entire thing yourself. You might as well have a "Notepad" project, and forget the IDE altogether!!

Hi
I am working on a bot for a game. The game is full-screen but I can run it in window mode, using the -w parameter.
What I'd want is when I run the bot, it minimizes the game window and creates a fake cursor for the game which click locations, buttons.. In short the bot plays the game for you while you are doing anything else, such as browsing web sites or whatever...
Would this be possible?
Any help would be greatly apprecied

What kind of game is this? Since it can run in fullscreen, I'm assuming it's OpenGL or DirectX.
To answer your question: It depends. You can try sending your own messages to the app, but if it's minimized, it may not be listening, or may be in a state where it's not able to receive any input (i.e., the device context may have been lost, and it's just spinning waiting for it to become un-minimized). Also, if it uses DirectInput, then you're SOL, since DirectInput talks directly to the device driver.

Have searched and searched the forum but cannot find the answer....I am using code found on CodeProject to append lines to an edit box in an MFC application I am playing with.(Hobby Programmer). I want to delete the second line of the text (entered programmatically by selchange of combo box)if the text is different from the existing. For the life of me I cannot figger this out. thanks in advance.

It has been a while since I have done any thing like this but if you look in the index of the MSDN library and find "edit controls [Win32]" you should be able to figure it out.
If I remember right, you need to select the text to be deleted (EM_SETSEL) and then send WM_CLEAR [delete/clear current selection] message to the control or EM_CUT [delete and copy current selection to the clipboard].

I have an dialog based program, I have created the actual tabs but I cant seem to display the dialog, tried sei item, insertitem and even create (which cause the program to crush when it gets to the line). how can I do it using the CTabCtrl class?

well if your a beginner as you say you are then you should study one of the following topics and maybe read a book of them : OpenGL or DirectX(You need the sdk for this, find it @ MSDN website).
