Does anybody have any advice about what to look for in a laptop to be used for .Net development. In particular, would an i5 or i7 processor be worth paying the extra money for and how much memory would be needed?

any advice would be much appreciated.

Nothing fancy required.

The only stipulation i would say is make sure the resolution is high enough. it makes coding easier as you can physically see more at once.

e.g. i bought a laptop that had 1024x800 (i think) is was a nightmare and binned it, and bought one with 1920x1080 and that is so much better.

In terms of spec, 2ghz+ 2Gb Ram+ 250gb hdd+, Wireless N, dvd-rw

As with any spec, the more memory and the higher the cpu the better, but you have to balance it all out with battery life and cost.

I am using an Acer Aspire 6935.

I have a 4 year old Dell Inspiron with Centrino Duo chip 1.5 GB main. Yes, it can be a little slow at times but it does the job. I guess going for a cheap (~£400/$500) laptop today would be more than adequate.

As much as you can afford with as big a screen as you can get!

Don't get anything with a screen smaller than 15 inches, with at least 4gb of RAM, and at least a 250GB hard drive.

And whatever you do, don't spend (much) more than $500 on it.

Are there any good brand laptops with that config? 15 inch-4gb-250gb-$500?
Might be in US, not here in India. :(
