Is it possible to use MODI in java project?

Hi,
I am trying to implement OCR in my java project to read text from an image.
Can MODI be used in java project?
I came across lot of examples using MODI in .NET while browsing, can this be done using java.
If this is not possible can anyone suggest other OCR tools for using in java.
