Hello Everyone,

Does anyone have any suggestions for a new computer. I be using for software development as a student, graphics, internet, etc.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Quad core (AMD or Intel, it doesn't matter), 16gb RAM. Everything else you might need is built onto most motherboards so there's no need for add-on cards unless you're going to to be gaming.

I also recommend building it yourself.

Good general idea, but even this is a bit of overkill (makes full sense though). Voted 5. Good idea about self-made build as well, but perhaps not for notebook computers. For a notebook, I would require separate monitor/keyboard/mouse.

You can't build your own notebook, that I know of. My suggestion was just regarding the processing capabilities of the computer - everyone knows they need the attaching and rotating bits. The import performance stuff are the cpu, memory, and video card.

Thank you John. This reads like a Dell XPS 8300. I was going to order the 9100, but it was discontinued.
This is an off-topic question. Here is the thing: software development requirements to a computer are becoming easier and easier, they are much less then those to, say, gaming and extensive graphics. Look for sufficient hard disk, memory and connectivity, provisions for upgrade. There is nothing special about software development in terms of hardware. Any consumer-grade modern or even slightly outdated (but only slightly) model will work for you. (Professional-grade computers can only add to the upgrade options and durability.) Think more about convenience, not super performance.

SAKryukov,

Thanks for the feedback. As you can see I am not on here much; not trying to break any protocols. I was thinking big for future upgrades. That is how I got my XPS 600 to last so long.
