Passing data from one application to another

I've been working on a project which has 2 applications(Sender, Receiver). Sender sends data from one machine. Receiver on another machine should just receive the data and display it. Please Let me know Where do i start and what are things needed to be taken care of...

I do not understand the 2 star rating for my answer. Is it wrong? Of course, it's short. But the question is kind of a general question and IMO the OP wants some hints which way he could go.

If someone has a better idea, he/she should post it as an answer.
