ASMX file serves as the end point for an ASP.NET Web service. It is used specifically for XML Web services.

PHP is Server-side HTML embedded scripting language. Thus PHP too can use webservice if needed like other languages.

Thus ASMX files(webservice) and PHP(a language) are totally two different entity and independent too.
