How Do I Sort Gridview Date Column In Ascending Order

I have a grid view where in data is bound from class after filtering records.. what i wanted is the records displayed in gridview to be sorted accroding to date.. date is considered as string by grid view here.. how can i sort gridview date column ascending by minimum server side code!! any help
