You are taking it way too serious or probably highly underestimate the volume and depth of knowledge expected from a qualified software developer. Compared to this volume of knowledge, knowledge of the different features of different version of Visual Studio simply does not count. You should be able to learn each new version in one day in complete detail.

Now, when would you need to use older version of something when you have a newer version? Only when there are serious defects in the newer one. And this is not the case. Just the opposite: I always felt VS 2010 had a considerable degradation compared to excellent VS 2008 (design, performance), but VS 2013 is again on top. This is my own opinion, of course. My main advice is: don't take it as a big labor, get a habit to learn it quickly and in complete detail. Sharpen you instruments the best way you can.

Really? Which one do you think is going to have more and better features for all kinds of development work? Is it going to be the 5 year old VS 2010 or the 2 year old VS 2013?

It probably depends what you really want. If you want to have known all the versions of VS, you missed some in your list. Get started with 2008, then 2010, 2012 and 2013.

If you want to learn just one at this moment, go for the latest unless you have something like "your company has the license for VS2010 and want to continue the development with it".
