I started my programming career in the late 80's with video games and have since written games on the AppleIIgs, SNES, Saturn, Playstation, and PC. After leaving the games industry and joining the ranks of consultants I began doing a lot of work with client/server applications, data movement, and communications. I've also become a recent convert to the XP principles of software development. Despite my defection to the business world I am still an avid gamer and I can be found on the gamezone most weekends slugging it out with others in the various online games there.

I currently live in Utah where I run PA (enterprise architecture consulting firm) and occasionally guest speak at architect forums. I mountain bike (badly), golf (very badly), and have fun (often).

Been programming for 40 years now, starting when I was 13 on DEC PDP 11 (back in the day of paper tape storage, and hex switch boot procedures). Got right into micro-computers from an early age, with machines like the Dick Smith Sorcerer and the CompuColor II. Started CP/M and MS-DOS programming in the mid 1980's. By the end of the '80's, I was just starting to get a good grip on OOP (Had Zortech C++ V1.0).

Got into ATL and COM programming early 2002. As a result, my gutter vocabulary has expanded, but it certainly keeps me off the streets.

Recently, I have had to stop working full time as a programmer due to permanent brain damage as a result of a tumour (I just can't keep up the pace required to meet KPI's). I still like to keep my hand in it, though, and will probably post more articles here as I discover various tricky things.

Note: articles posted here are independently written and do not represent endorsements nor reflect the views of my employer.

I am a Program Manager for .NET Data at Microsoft. I have been building enterprise software with a focus on line of business web applications for more than two decades. I'm the author of several (now historical) technical books including Designing Silverlight Business Applications and Programming the Windows Runtime by Example. I use the Silverlight book everyday! It props up my monitor to the correct ergonomic height. I have delivered hundreds of technical presentations in dozens of countries around the world and love mentoring other developers. I am co-host of the Microsoft Channel 9 "On .NET" show. In my free time, I maintain a 95% plant-based diet, exercise regularly, hike in the Cascades and thrash Beat Saber levels.

I was diagnosed with young onset Parkinson's Disease in February of 2020. I maintain a blog about my personal journey with the disease at https://strengthwithparkinsons.com/.

Hi there! From 2004 to 2009 I ran a company called "GeoFrameworks," publishing two components called GPS.NET and GIS.NET which helped developers quickly write location-based services. Now, I've released the source code for GPS.NET to CodePlex for you to use as you see fit.

GPS.NET 2.0 on CodePlex
GPS.NET 3.0 on CodePlex

... I've also released the source code of a library called the "GeoFramework," a collection of commonly used classes such as Latitude, Longitude, Distance, Speed, and Position:

GeoFramework 1.0 on CodePlex
GeoFramework 2.0 on CodePlex

I'm now taking a break from programming, but I really appreciate the positive feedback from readers!

I just love coding. I started programming in 1995 with BASIC and then moved through Cobol, Pascal, Prolog, C, C++, VB, VC++ and now C#/.NET.

I received a Bachelor of Technology degree in Computer Science from University of Calcutta in 2001.

I worked for some time in Texas Instruments, Adobe Systems and now in Microsoft India Development Center in the Visual Studio Team Systems.

I am from the City of Joy, Kolkata in India, but now live and code Hyderabad.
