The knowledge and indepth experience helps and not just papyrus products, which a local shack or training center can 'purchase' for a couple of exchange of bills. At least with respect to India, certifications have got lesser values nowdays with huge organizations since the amount of fake certifications have been steadily increasing. Personally from the Interview panel, I can figure out whether the candidate is actually skilled or not, in less than 5 minutes, regardless of the flashy certifications that he may brandish.

Volunteer on some projects (open source, community websites, etc) and build up your experience. Some places that I have interviewed like that I wrote articles for CP and others liked that I did .NET researching on the side for my own projects too.

How start programming in an open source project?
I have a Masters degree in computer applications but have not used my programming knowledge/experience in the last couple of years. I want to re-sharpen my skills and think participating in some open source projects would help and be very interesting; but I really don't know where to start.
-- do I just find a project I want to help with? (where do I find one)
-- is there a community for each project that I need to present myself to?
-- if there is a project I'd like to help with, where do I begin?
-- where can I help smaller projects and warm up?
I hope you get the gist of this question, any guidance would be GREATLY appreciate

pick an open source project, actually pick several. Look at it's bug list. Start fixing stuff and submitting it back to be included in the official build. You can find a mess of oss projects of all sizes on sourceforge. The reason for not focusing on a single project is that you're really not going to be able to tell from the outside if the project is actually welcoming newcomers or will simply ignore any submissions from outside an insular clique.

You could look through the projects on sourceforge or codeplex and find one that you might be interested in. If you are interested in gaming, there are some game engines out there that are open source, if you like databases, there are database projects etc.... Look at the bugs for the project and the source and try to fix one. If you can then send in the fix to the owners of the project. If you do that, they might invite you to join them or ask if you want to be a part of it.
If you have a pet project you could always write it and put it up on sourceforge or codeplex. This is a slow way because other people may or may not look at the project or download it at all.
There are sites like topcoder.com[^] that give you little assignments and tests to do to rank you. They also have projects that you can bid on. RentACoder.com[^] is another site where you can do little projects for others. Even if you do not get a bid you can still try to do the project on your own in some cases just to improve your skills.

i am working on a software... the main purpose is to capture audio and video then send them through network using UDP protocol then the receiver preview it ... so it is a live capture...
i really need the source code .in C# is better. i have searched the articles but found nothing pleas i am running out of time

Hi I m Jay & Im doin a project named"Operating PC Through SMS" for which I require a SMS Gateway which will send my sms in e-mail form 2 my PC & also return the reply in SMS form to my cell phone. I cant find any body who provides a SMS Gateway. Everybody just gives the info abt it. Can anybody tel me where will I find a SMS Gateway. I really need it because my time is running out. Plz Help!

The company I work for has introduced Systems Management Server (SMS) with some rather dractonian rules (that have been developed by burocrats with no idea about developers) Is there a fire wall or something I can install on my PC (incidently I'm a contractor and my development PC is my own, not provided by the company) to stop this SMS sillyness? I'm happy to do without internet access etc, all I need to do is publish my web projects to the server occasionally.
Thanks for any pointers, I'm finiding developing in this environment almost imposible, (eg, no run command allowed, no task manager, can't browse files!!!)
My next desperate move is going to be separate PC's on on the net one off, and transfer files with a USB drive (unitl they get disabled!)

after that then i run it on another computer and makes a break point.
then when i run it then no stops at break point and a message appears
when i point through mouse a question mark appears like (?) not hit at break poit.

I really need help with stuff and at this point I'd say that your responsibility would be as a "Peer" (note I didn't say employee) and your status would be as a 1099. I think I could keep at least 20 hours a week of work coming your way. I've been told I'm very easy to work with but that I personally work too much. Hence the call for help.
