I do not understand. The physical machinery rotates five graphic elements around five axes. What else would the "design / implementation of code" do but rotate five graphic elements around five axes?

Changing the look of a sign is manipulation of graphics, whether that manipulation is moving physical pieces or images of such pieces. In this case, the manipulation is rotation. The code will have to do the image rotation, just like the gears do the mechanical rotation. You have five images (with a lot of transparency) laid on top of each other, and you want to write the code to rotate those five images.

The mechanical concept is five rotating pieces, nothing more. "Abstracting" this into a base class and a subclass is (in my opinion: senseless) over-engineering.

Religious freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make five.
