Building LAN Messaging Software

I want to build Messaging Software that will send and receive messages to machines or computers connected through a LAN.

The problem is that I don't know about this sort of programming at all.

I can download different software to do that but I want to learn it first and want to build it from scratch by understanding each and every class.

Kindly guide me and tell me the steps to perform, or give me some clues or links so that I can read articles and build something from my own.

As you have noticed, there is a reasonable amount of work to do to get this up and running - far to much to "hold your hand" and go through here.

Google using your subject as the search term (add "tutorial" on the end to make it easier). You will get plenty of examples which will guide you through!
