OCR projection profile implementation help

I was doing a project based on OCR and i don't have any previous experience in OCR systems. i was wondering if some one can guide how to implement this projection profiles (Horizontal projection profile, Vertical Projection profile). this profiles helps to identify the lines and words. the basic segmentation. in so many places (articles ) mention this method and i did not find any example regarding this. so that's why i asked you guys.... :(

Do you have an OCR library already ? What do you mean by profile ?

i want to do the segmentation in a scanned image. i want to separate lines words and characters from the image
