how can i auto hide or hide the topbar on ubuntu desktop display(which contains time,network symbl,sound ,etc)

i have full screen mode application so i need to fill up entire screen of the screen ,but in ubuntu which always showing top panel or bar .how hide that or how to make my application to overlap on that? even i return that application with the property of always on top it works on windows but not in ubuntu .
